Our Experience

A partial listing of our EMS experience:

US EPA:

Beyond Compliance staff works closely with the Sustainable Earth Initiative (SEI), our sister non-profit organization, specializing in performance-based solutions to environmental issues. SEI works with cities and counties as well as local neighborhood groups to educate, plan, and facilitate a more effective environmental management strategy as well as to promote the concept of sustainability. SEI has been designated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to lead an initiative, known as the Public Entity EMS Resource (PEER) Center to promote EMS to local government and other public sector organizations. SEI serves public entities within EPA Region IX including: California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands.

Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC):

Beyond Compliance has assisted SLAC with the development and documentation of an EMS pursuant to the Executive Order 13148, Greening the Government Through Leadership in Environmental Management, and DOE Order 450.1, Environmental Protection Program. The goal of this project was to assist SLAC in completing the EMS documentation in preparation for the third party review.

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD):

Beyond Compliance lead a study evaluating the feasibility of implementing EMS and integrated environmental health and safety management systems in public school districts. The study was designed to evaluate the feasibility of employing an integrated systems approach to meeting environmental, health, and safety compliance at public schools and to assist the USEPA in evaluating policy implications of promoting EMS as well as other systems to address health and safety compliance at public school sites.

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory:

Beyond Compliance staff is assisting the LBNL in implementing a Performance Based EMS. The process included a complex gap analysis, and evaluation of existing environmental management programs against the ISO 14401 and the Department of Energy Order standards for EMS. This concluded in an implementation strategy that developed to maximize the use of existing systems, their integrated health, safety and environmental management system.

Air Force Bases (AFB) including Vandenberg:

Beyond Compliance staff have developed more than a dozen EMSs or modified environmental management / action plans for US Air Force installations throughout California and Hawaii. Vandenberg AFB commissioned the development of eight EMS in response to Executive Order 13148 and were developed in order to provide systems and strategies to assist remote site operators in their efforts to comply with all applicable environmental laws and requirements as well as to incorporate the basic elements of an EMS to provide enhance pollution prevention objectives. Beyond Compliance staff also led the development of five similar, but more comprehensive EMSs for Vandenberg Air Force Base and the Onizuka Air Station.

New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. Sustainability Training:

Beyond Compliance led a multi-day training session to bring Toyota and General Motors employees up to speed on the concepts of EMS and sustainability.
