Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs)

Most enforcement actions brought against businesses or individuals for failure to comply with environmental laws are resolved through settlement agreements. A supplemental environmental project (SEP) is an environmentally beneficial project that a violator voluntarily agrees to undertake as an option to offset some portion of the monetary penalty.

SEPs are designed to protect and enhance the public health and the environment and often assist facilities in proactively managing environmental performance and compliance.

SEP Services

Beyond Compliance specializes in developing and implementing SEPs in the following areas which are eligible for penalty mitigation credit:

  1. Environmental Audits
  2. Environmental Management Systems
  3. Pollution Prevention and Waste Reduction
  4. Emergency Planning and Preparedness

If your company faces a civil penalty and wishes to offset some of the penalty by implementing an EMS or any other type of approved SEP, Beyond Compliance staff can help identify, submit, and implement an appropriate project.
