Compliance Management Systems (CMS)

A CMS is a proactive management tool to better manage the risk of noncompliance with EH&S laws. It is an extraordinary challenging for EH&S managers to decipher and implement the vast array of ever-changing environmental laws at the federal, state, and local levels. A CMS captures salient requirements and translates them into manageable roles, responsibilities, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Program Descriptions: brief descriptions of relevant regulatory programs and requirements;
  • Staff Responsibilities: narrative descriptions of the roles and responsibilities for implementing a compliance calendar;
  • SOPs: addressing the "who, what, when, and how" of obligations to be accomplished;

  • Additional Elements: Spill Management/Emergency Response procedures, Self-inspection Checklists and Agency Inspection Protocol
The CMS can also be adapted to interface with an information management system to manage data, responsibilities, and deadlines.
